An event unparalleled in the world and the greatest social gathering of 2024 in the Czech Republic - that is the XVIIth All-Sokol Slet. The Sokol members will gather in Prague in the week of 30 June - 5 July 2024 to present to the public their wide-range activities, rich history and - above all - their up-to-date present.
"Sokol Slets have always been not just sporting events but also social festivities, preceded by years of preparation. The dedication of the Sokol sisters and brothers is enormous, involving hundreds of hours of rehearsals in course of over a year, not counting the time that the authors spend inventing the performance," says Hana Moučková, mayor of the Czech Sokol Community (ČOS).
The participants perceive Sokol Slets as their lifetime experience - with 2000 people exercising in the field as one man running chills down their spines. Sokol has always cared about what’s happening in society. Since the current society is divided in a way, the Slet aims at pulling down the barriers. That is why its motto is “Slet brings people together!”. And this interlinking does not apply only to the society, but also to sports, to communities, to history and the present, to art and sport and, last but not least, across generations.
Slet brings people together
“We will open the Slet week in Prague at the National Theatre, the Sokol members will march through Prague in a parade, there will be a range of smaller stage performances and shows of artistic ensembles in the capital, and the best of Sokol competitive athletes will perform at the Sokol Gala in the O2 Arena,” says Petr Svoboda, Chief of the Czech Sokol Community.
The Slet week will be attended by some 20 000 gymnasts, not only from the Czech Republic, but also from abroad, for example from the USA, Brazil, Germany and Austria. The Slet counts on the engagement of all 14 Czech regions, where over three dozen district and regional gatherings will take place. Sokol members have prepared 12 Slet performances for all age categories
