Anna is originally from Prague, Matěj from Ostrava. Yet, thanks to Sokol, they found their way to each other and today they are raising a little future gymnast. The relationship of the Kaločs is a true Sokol gathering love story.
It all started before the 2012 gathering. Each was then preparing in their district at opposite ends of the country for the mass composition "Dávej ber." Interestingly, it was authored by the current mayor of Sokol, Martin Chlumský.
It all began before the 2012 Sokol gathering. At that time, everyone was preparing in their respective districts, at opposite ends of the country, for the mass composition "Dávej ber." Coincidentally, it was authored by the current mayor of Sokol, Martin Chlumský.
"In Moravská Ostrava, our group had an incomplete set. So, we received information that we would join forces with the Jan Podlipný district from Prague. I was the leader of our district's rehearsals, and Martin Chlumský wrote to me at that time, saying that girls from Libeň were ready for us," Matěj Kaloč recounts. "The leader of our group back then told me that someone named Matěj Kaloc had written to her, messing up his name. She asked if it would be okay for us to be supplemented by people from Ostrava. She gave me numbers, how many there would be, and so on. And I said, I don't understand at all what you're saying, but I'm going for it," Anna describes her part of the story.
Their first personal meeting took place on July 2, 2012, on the field of the Eden Stadium during joint rehearsals. Anna was 16 years old and, according to her, struggled with nervousness. After all, she suddenly had to practice with new, unknown men. Matěj, then twenty years old, fortunately quickly dispelled her fears. "When we said goodbye after the gathering, I felt sorry. I distinctly remember passing each other at the intersection, thinking it was all over. And we waved," Anna reminisces.
"Fateful" šibřinky
The spark didn't ignite then, but both young people knew about each other. They met again the following year at an event called "Sokolové pod Řípem" in Roudnice nad Labem. Since then, their contact—still friendly—has become more intense.
"We started talking even more in spring 2014 because my geography teacher wanted me to work on the Moravian-Silesian region for my graduation seminar. I wrote to Matěj, and he replied asking if we wanted to come to Ostrava with the Prague girls for šibřinky. So I came, and then it was quite fast..." Anna says about the beginning of their relationship.
Their wedding was on July 5, 2022, exactly 10 years after Anna and Matěj performed the mass composition "Dávej ber" together at the gathering. Most of the wedding guests in the village near Ostrava were Sokol members. Today, the Kaločs are already a family of three at the gathering.
