The three-year cooperation of the Sokol organization with Penny Czech Republic has been culminating. As a result, over four million crowns in funds and vouchers will be distributed among the Sokol Units involved in preparations for the gathering.
The cooperation between the Czech Sokol Community and Penny has been expanding since the post-Covid year 2021, to come to its present culmination.
“I greatly appreciate the long-term support and I am glad that Penny is now actively joining the Slet - the greatest sporting and social event, which marks the peak of our activities,” says Hana Moučková, the Mayor of the Czech Sokol Community (ČOS).
For the past two years, Penny and Sokol have implemented a project called “Hýbeme se hezky česky” (Czech Way to be Active)..
“Penny has always paid attention to the support of all regions, of the Sokol Units,” says Marek Tesař, Head of the Office of the Czech Sokol Community. The successful project naturally evolved into our working together for the Slet. “This time, the support will be directed to the Sokol units involved in preparations of the XVII th All-Sokol Slet,” added Tesař.
Penny, just like Sokol, supports sporting activities in a long run, and regards joining of the XVII th All-Sokol Slet as a next step in the cooperation between the organizations.
“We are very much looking forward to the gathering. Our discussions with the communication team suggest that the help is most needed in the regions, which is why we are heading in this direction. We believe that our financial and - mostly - product support, will help or at least please,” says Vít Vojtěch, Head of Strategic Marketing at Penny.
By the end of November, the Sokol Units preparing for the Sokol gathering will receive voucher books for the purchase of goods needed by the gymnasts from the nearest Penny store and, additionally to that, some of the Sokol Units will receive funds directly. The form of the support will depend on the number of the Unit members participating in the Slet. Part of the support must be used up by the end of this year, but it is envisaged for the next year too.
“We would be very happy if the funds were used to finance rehearsals at regional level, to support gymnasts and to purchase gym outfits, which are all important aspects for the Slet to go well. However, it is up to the Sokol Units themselves how they use the support,” says Petr Svoboda, Chief of ČOS.
The Hýbeme se hezky česky project backed up financially and materially hundreds of sports clubs and teams in all regions. This year, summer trips were held from spring to autumn, and their participants could enjoy interesting hiking tours and social events, often including concerts of Michal David.
Last but not least, there is another aspect to the cooperation between Sokol and Penny - Sokol members regularly provide assistance to Penny stores during the national Food Collection.
