Motion, dance, music and cheerful mood. Around 15 000 Sokol members will officially open the XVIIth All-Sokol Slet with the traditional parade through the center of Prague. The metropolis will get in motion along the lines of the motto “Slet brings people together!”.
The Slet participants, the members of all 42 Czech Sokol district organizations and of the units from abroad will be marching in the parade. The colorful procession will feature live music, a Mexican wave will rise up under the windows here and there, fragments of the stage performances by participants dressed in their uniforms will be seen, as well as the Sokol uniforms and historical banners flowing in the air.
The parade will start at Wenceslas Square and will get moving at 10 a.m. It will wind through 28. října street and Národní avenue, continue along Smetana embankment and Křižovnická street to Jan Palach Square and the Rudolfinum concert hall. From there, it will reach its destination on the Old Town Square.
The parades have been a popular and integral part of the All-Sokol Slets ever since the first one held in 1882. Back then, 1600 Sokol members and guests walked through the streets of Prague to the music of Kmoch wind orchestra. Six years ago, during the XVIth All-Sokol Slet in 2018, some 13 000 Sokol members took part in the parade.
Best of luck to the Slet parade!
